Newspaper project in 3 AUL
An exciting project is currently running in the Matura class of the GAFA tourism school: As part of the history lessons, 2 students each prepare the news of the week once a week. Using current Austrian daily newspapers as well as screenshots from national and international news sites, the students present the week's events.
Klaus Stöger, head of the class and history teacher, explains: "In the preparation, the speakers separate important from unimportant news items, in the presentation they compare how different newspapers present and weight the same news item, and in between they also discuss the current news in the class plenum. And last but not least, the presentations also help the students to practice the skills of free speech, which are important for the upcoming maturity and diploma exams."
Incidentally, the newspapers that the students use for their presentations do not have to be bought by them: The association "ZiS - Zeitung in der Schule" (Newspaper in School), founded by the Association of Austrian Newspapers, delivers selected newspapers in class size to the school every day for a month.
