Zwi Perez Chajes School commemorated the November pogrom of 1938
"Life in Vienna after the Shoah": This was the motto of a discussion with students of the Zwi Perez Chajes School of the Jewish Community Vienna on November 8. The November pogrom of 1938 had previously been commemorated in a memorial event in the school's own synagogue. The GAFA was represented by school representative Christopher Lichtmannegger (2AUL), the students Stefanie Pollak (2AUL) and Sarah Al Sayed (1FKC) as well as history teacher Mag. Klaus Stöger.
In Simon-Wiesenthal-Gasse in the 2nd district, nearly 180 students currently attend elementary school and high school. In an interview with GAFA, Meir Yakopow, a 6th grade student, talked about his life in Vienna and the lessons at the Gymnasium. In addition to the "classical" subjects of an AHS, Jewish history and Hebrew are also subjects of instruction at Zwi Perez Chajes School. Meir Yakopov, whose parents immigrated from Russia, feels very much at home in his hometown. He has never been subjected to anti-Semitic abuse. He would like to study medicine after graduating from high school.
There was also an opportunity to visit the "Tree of Remembrance" planted by GAFA 10 years ago (on the occasion of the opening of the school). The GAFA tree stands in the schoolyard, growing and thriving magnificently.
GAFA, whose connection to Judaism is reflected in its school address, considers it an obligation to uphold the memory of the Jewish victims.
