Visit to the AUL in Auschwitz
At the beginning of May, six pupils and a teacher went on a multi-day excursion to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp organized by "MoRaH Austria" and took part in the annual "March of the living".
The guided tour of the Auschwitz 1 main camp was particularly impressive.
On display were stolen possessions such as glasses, suitcases, shoes, tools, but also cut-off hair and even ashes of the murdered prisoners.
There were pictures of various prisoners on the walls of a former barrack.
Our students found the only surviving gas chamber, the "death wall" and cells for punishing and starving prisoners extremely depressing.
On the day of the "March of the living", which led from main camp 1 to Auschwitz-Birkenau, the pupils had the opportunity to look around the extermination camp. Afterwards, there was a ceremony to commemorate the deceased and, on the following day, an eyewitness talk with Irene Shashar at the Plaszow camp, where the film "Schindler's List" is set.
Before departure, there was a guided tour of the Jewish quarter of Krakow, during which a lot was explained about Jewish culture.
By meeting two Viennese "Likrat" pupils, our pupils were also able to learn more about Jewish customs and the Jewish religion.
